Black Rail Coffee Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Black Rail Coffee

One of the newest coffee shops in town, Black Rail Coffee, is having its ribbon cutting ceremony tomorrow June 4 at 10 a.m. Its location at 800 Jackson St. in Hoboken, right outside the 9th and Congress Light Rail Station, makes Black Rail Coffee a super convenient place to get your daily caffeine fix. As a commuter, I like stepping off the Light Rail in the morning and with one sleepy foot in front of the other trudge a mere twenty feet to the coffee shop. It’s also in a primarily residential area where coffee shops and restaurants are few and far between, a spot I’m sure the neighborhood will appreciate.

Black Rail Coffee has a warm and inviting environment with casual, minimalistic decor and a very friendly staff that takes the time to get to know you. You can take a seat by the panoramic windows, overlooking the Light Rail Station, and observe the hustle while enjoying a steaming cup of coffee, a pastry or pressed sandwiches. Personally, I like to order an Americano, but Black Rail Coffee has also got a House Blend, Decaf, Espresso, Latte, Cappuccino, Teas, and Iced Coffee for those approaching hot summer days. Their take on coffee is simple—you won’t find a bunch of fancy, flavored concoctions—but they deliver on quality, using direct trade beans which have pleasant citrusy notes.

I like their sandwiches too. I tried the Wasa Beef, which appears to be a crowd favorite. It has roast beef, arugula, red onions, wasabi mayo and swiss cheese on rosemary foccacia bread. Their ingredients taste fresh and they only use Hudson Bread. Every sandwich looks well thought-out and delicious, with a menu that is not huge but diverse enough to satisfy all kinds of palates.

So if you’ve got time tomorrow, stop by Black Rail Coffee and welcome them to the neighborhood. The mayor will be in attendance and there will be a drawing for prizes. Enjoy.
