Dig In – Bringing National Breakfast Week to Hudson County

by Abby Montanez

The practice of breakfast eating could be one of the most debated and over analyzed topics of all time. But just how important is the most important meal of the day? For years we’ve known that eating a nutritious breakfast every morning is the key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. While several nutritionists have made a case for nixing breakfast altogether, a study out of Harvard links skipping breakfast to things like heart disease, obesity, and high blood pressure. So if you’re trying to sustain a long and healthy life, or just need an excuse to eat more pancakes, by all means get your breakfast on. And if restaurant week has got you hungry, whether you’re an egg lover or loather, bacon fiend or foe, check out these amazing breakfast spots in Hudson County.

Brownstone Pancake Factory – Edgewater, NJ

For many of us, when we think about breakfast we instantly think about pancakes. And what better place to get your fill then at the Brownstone Pancake Factory? And if you’re anything like me, torn between sweet and savory, try one of their pancake wraps which are eggs and fixin’s wrapped inside a pancake. Oh, and did we mention they’re the only ones to make the list that serve breakfast ALL day long? Now there’s no excuse not to go.

Court Street – Hoboken, NJ

One of Hoboken’s best kept secrets, Court Street, is most commonly known for their weeknight dinner menu. But what some people might not know, is that on Sundays, they brunch. From steak and eggs to huevos rancheros, every entree is served with a side of fresh fruit and Irish soda bread. And if you’re starting your day by eating fruits like cantaloupe or any other melon with a high water content, they’ll have you and your skin feeling hydrated and refreshed all day long. And who can complain about that?

La Isla – Hoboken, NJ

Serving up some of the best, and most authentic Cuban cuisine is La Isla. Their famous “Omar’s stuffed french toast” is stuffed with strawberry/guava cream cheese, dipped in a cinnamon batter, and crusted in a mix of almonds and cornflakes. Aside from the outrageous and delicious richness of this dish, strawberries are very high in antioxidants and are great for heart health. They’re also high in Vitamin C! So if you’re looking for something more exciting for breakfast, you definitely want to pay La Isla a visit to celebrate National Breakfast Week.
