February Live Music Enthusiasm

by Rachel Montel

“The only truth is music,” a comment once made by Jack Kerouac, the man who developed an entire literature generation from the jazz movement of the 1950s. Whether music may serve as a source of inspiration or relaxation, live music events are perfect for this late-February weekend.

Jump-start the weekend on Thursday, February 23 at Madame Claude in Jersey City for Manouche Bag starting at 7:30 p.m. This Jersey City-based band performs a wide-range of music genres from originals to traditional French songs to tangos and recreates music from the gypsy jazz of Django Reinhardt, Serge Gainsbourg and Jo Privat.

On Friday night, February 24, head to Maxwell’s in Hoboken for soul music starting at 8:30 p.m. featuring Queens of Soul. This soul music group is composed of five distinct female artists offering a myriad of melody. Tickets can be purchased here for $20. For a night of folk-music, check out Fox and Crow in Jersey City featuring Dan O’Dea and Eagle Ridge from 10 p.m. until 12 a.m. If genre decisiveness is lacking, head to Willie McBrides at 11 p.m. for a diverse genre arrangement featured by Brian Kirk and the Jirks from rock, funk, hip-hop, jazz and modern songs.

On Saturday, February 25, head to Jersey City’s Fox and Crow for a combination of blues, roots, jazz, soul and pop featuring Chrissi Poland from 10:00 p.m.to 12:00 a.m.. End the weekend on Sunday, February 26, with a live jazz brunch at Maxwell’s in Hoboken from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. featuring The Jack Breslin Trio. Jazz enthusiasts should take note of Moore’s Lounge in Jersey City that features live jazz any and every night starting at 6 p.m.
